Three R.C.S. Seniors Sign National Letter of Intent Accepting Athletic Scholarships.

            Three R.C.S. seniors committed to Division 1 and 2 Colleges by signing a National Letter of Intent in a ceremony in front of the student body on Tuesday.   The signing took place in front of fellow students, faculty and family in a ceremony that recognized the outstanding accomplishments of these three athletes.  Michael Giltner received a 73 percent tuition scholarship to play baseball at Cal State East Bay. A.J. Vanegas received a 75% baseball scholarship for room, board, and tuition at Stanford University.  Laura Magee received $11 thousand basketball scholarship from Colorado Christian.   "To be offered a scholarship during the early signing period (November) shows a real committment by these colleges to these athletes. I expect each of these players to have a real impact at the next level," said Jim Cleveland, Director of Athletics at Redwood Christian.

           During the ceremony several of the athletic accomplishments of these athletes were recognized.  Michael Giltner received 1st Team All League Honors in Baseball every season so far of his high school career.   He was also the team MVP last season on a team that reached the N.C.S. finals.  Laura Magee has been a three sport star at Redwood Christian lettering at the Varsity level since her freshmen year in Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball.  Also, Laura received the Jack Welch Inspirational Christian Athlete Award for 2008/2009.  Basketball Team MVP as a Junior.  She is currently the all time career leader in rebounds at Redwood Christian.  A.J. Vanegas has been recognized on the National Level as one of the top pitching prospects in his class.  Last summer he pitched in the Area Code Games; The National Aflac All American Classic; and was named to the 18U U.S.A. Baseball Team that won the gold medal in Venezuela this fall.  At Redwood Christian he has received all league honors each of his three seasons.  Also, he received the Freddy Foster outstanding pitcher award for his sophomore and junior seasons.
